Can’t Draw? This Online Pencil Drawing Course Might Change That

Let me just start by saying: I’ve always adored art supplies—the scratch of a good pencil, the smudge of graphite, the blank page begging for magic. The glide of the perfect pen (like these beauties)? Instant dopamine hit. But real talk? Drawing realistically always felt a bit out of reach. Until now.

Yesterday, I stumbled upon Pencil Drawing Made Easy, and let me tell you, it was like someone delivered a first-class creativity boost straight to my inbox (minus the postage). It’s an online course designed specifically for beginners who want to draw realistically—and it’s packed with practical, no-fluff instruction.

The course is taught by Nolan (a charming, encouraging art wizard), and it’s all in video format—perfect for watching on your laptop, tablet, or even while curled up in bed with your phone and a sketchpad. Each lesson is about two hours long, which means you get detailed, follow-along guidance in real time. We’re talking: how to hold your pencil, which erasers actually erase, and why light and shadows are your best drawing friends.

One of my favorite parts? Every class comes with downloadable templates, high-quality reference photos, and the final artwork to compare your progress. No guesswork. Just pure pencil power.

Now, let’s talk about that spoon drawing in Lesson 2. At first glance, I thought, “Oh heck no, this is going to be hard.” But with Nolan’s explanations and step-by-step demo? I surprised myself. It turned out better than I expected—and gave me the confidence to keep going.

The next lessons include still life projects like garlic and onion (yes, they actually look beautiful!), a transparent wine glass, a rose (gorgeous!), and an apple. Each one helps you master texture, depth, shading, and even reflective surfaces.

Eventually, you’ll graduate to portraits—learning how to draw eyes, noses, lips, ears, and hair in a way that feels intuitive, not intimidating. There are even bonus lessons on drawing hands, fabrics, and other tricky textures most tutorials gloss over.

I’m still working my way through the course—it’s over 32 hours of juicy content, which has me itching to explore my creative side even further (maybe with a little writing, too).

So if you’re itching to sketch like a pro, or you just want to explore your creative side without the overwhelm, take a peek here:

  3. Hey,

I loved that I have come across this article as my nephew was talking about being able to draw the other day, and he is going to love me when I share this article and course with him.

I will send it onto his Dad (my brother) and encourage him to take up the course with him and help him through it.

If they have any questions then I’ll tell them to get in touch with you, if that is OK?

Thank you for sharing and keep up the amazing work on your site.

    All the best,

    Tom

  4. Hi JarieLyn.

As someone who just started re-learning to draw, this post really spoke to me. It’s both inspiring and comforting to see the process broken down like this. Makes it feel a lot less overwhelming! I used to think drawing was only for people born with talent, but I’m starting to see that it’s a skill you can build step by step, and this post really drives home that point. Thank you for sharing. It’s definitely a boost of motivation to keep going!

    • Hi Michael, I used to compare myself to others who I thought had talent. But now, IK realize that anyone can learn to draw. My sister and I bought art journals last year, and we would draw or paint a picture every day and then text each other a copy of our drawing. That helped us get better too.

I was very excited when I came across this drawing course. I’m glad you got a boost of motivation from this article.

      Keep on drawing!
